    96 XP mag cup bolts

I have a 96 xp with a few mods. 4mm stroker crank, Coffman pipe, Novi high compression head. Thing runs great, but I can't seem to keep the mag cup on it. It looks like the bolts holding the mag cup on are backing out and eventually breaking. When those go it takes out the stator and the pickup with em. First time I thought I forgot to loctite and torque. But now its done it twice. I'm not running crazy rpms, never been over 7400. I read in the 4-tec section that there are updated hardened bolts but thats not gonna keep em from backing out. Anyone else ever have a problem with this? Im thinking about getting some hardened bolts and tack welding them on the back of the flywheel. It looks like I can still get the flywheel puller on with the mag cup installed. What do you guys think?

You have a problem with harmonics. I've heard of the mag bolts shearing but very seldom in occurance. Hardened bolts with 242 Loctite Blue should correct the problem. But, buying a lightened flywheel will help too. Especially with holeshot. I have a Jetinetics on my 800 with no problems. And a blue (can't remember name) on my 920 that cracked, but he sold me a replacement after the warranty expired for a reasonable price.

    Make sure, Black Max it
(that's the strongest grade of Loc-Tite I've ever used)

Thanks for the input. I used red loctite with the original bolts, but will try again with the hardened ones. Any recommendation on torque? I think the oem spec is like 10 or 15 ft lbs. I will check out the Black Max. Thanks!

    NO NO NO
That stuff is way more than you need. When I last used it, it was in SCBA air packs to hold in 200psi air, red should be plenty.

I guess it's how it's applied. Cleaning mine brushing out the old, chasing the threads, and spraying with carb cleaner afterword...my stock bolts have been holding with blue for years on both engines...

DARTH,off this topic, but saw you have the R&D 3 degree trim wings. How do you like them? My ski porpuses pretty bad with only a little chop. Only run in a small lake with little traffic so mostly smooth. just wondered ho wthe wings were.
