    towing hitch question

Anyone tow a single ski trailer with a Class I hitch? Any comments? I have an 07 GTX, am buying a small suv rated for 1500 lb towing limit. Trailer and ski weigh about 1050 lbs +gas together. I know Class I hitch is rated to 2000 lbs but it looks so wimpy it scares me. I have always towed with a class III on my old truck but would love the lesser profile of the class I on this smaller truck.

as long as the tranny will take it the hitch will be fine...

Towed MID LIFE CRISIS 2 from Wisconsin to Florida 11/06 and back 02/07 with my car(at the time)on a class 1 hitch, no trailer/hitch problems but:
    1. it took 2 transmissions...
    2. I killed 1 deer on the way down (0.6 miles into the 3000 mile trip)...

Thanks JP, that helps. Love your machine. As an immature 60 yr old I can appreciate the boats name. Looks like you and the machine made it through the deer encounter. Pretty common up here in upstate NY. You probably didn`t even get to enjoy the venison.

Pete, what type of small suv are you getting?

class I hitch, is it the flat bar type? is it already part of the vehicles bumper?
could you possibly step up to the classII hitch? which is 1 1/4 in square receiver.
have a look at they guys and input your info into the "hitch hunter" to see what`s avail for your suv...

    Trust the weight limits

I believe that you can trust the weight limits stated by the manufacturer. If they are wrong, they are subject to a BIG lawsuit.
If some of the younger readers ever saw the old removeable bumper hitches that were popular until about the 1970's, you would think a modern Class I hitch is a 'work of art' .

I have a class I on an 07 Camry pulling a single trailer and 05 GTX problems, but do wacth out for transmission. Run the transmission out of overdrive. If you are making a long haul, try and use a larger vehicle. --jeremy
