    pump issues

i am trying to work out what has gone wrong with my pump upgrade.

the ski had a bad shake in it down low and felt like the pump was out.

when i pulled the pump tonight i can see the wear ring is badly damaged, like scored and so is the 2 inch spacer which has scoring in it also.

it looks to me like the prop is not down far enough onto the shaft and it has chewed its way through the spacer as its not designed to have a prop in that area

the scoring into the spacer looks to be about the same size as what the prop sits away from the pump.

can anyone please tell me if this diagnosis is correct, how it would have happened and any ideas on how to fix it?

Thats what I though with the shaft lengths i am going over to Izzo place to try work it out but what gets me why is the prop not going all the way.

What would cause that its sitting 1inch away.

Would be interesting to see how the pump bearings look also. If there was that much vibration you need to at least check them.

    I am using this shaft
    http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/ya...511-00-00.html

the ski is a 2002 model carbed gpr and i was told the intermediate shaft is ok to use with a 30" drive shaft..

i did a 05 pump upgrade on it during the build, so i got the following bits as well
    2inch spacer
    05 pump
    new bearings etc..

    kept the old wear ring.

i think you may be right about the pump bearings, they would have copped a hiding, it felt stiff to turn when i pulled it out ( at first) and it feels a little strange now, not smooth like one would expect from new bearings.

You DEFINATELY have some issues going on there. The prop is not where it is suposed to be. If you pull the pump out of your '06 they should look identical. What are the numbers on the prop in the '02?

You can pull the intermediate without pulling the motor ! Just remove the top bolts of the mounts and slide it back a few inches. Once you get clearence its only three bolts to get it off of the midwall.

Did the guy install the bearing spacer?

may be a good example of "axial load" on that rear bearing

Either the nut came off the end of the shaft in the pump or there is no spacer like Carl said.

Putting the wrong shaft in there would have no effect on prop placement, only where the splines meet up in the intermediate housing.
