    Racing Helmet Recommendation

What helmet do you racers recommend for occasional organized events for around $250?

Also, what is the main difference between a $500+ helmet and a $200 one?

Do you recommend full face sheild or open, or hybrid (both).

    thanks.

I use a light moto helmet and it feels great. I think it was only like $65 total.

    H2HO,

It's too bad you asked this question now instead of waiting a few more weeks for your June issue of Personal Watercraft Illustrated. Why? Because we conducted a really good shootout of five APBA-legal helmets from a variety of price levels and brands!

Heres my take...How much is your egg yolk worth to ya?

I would NEVER race with a 65.00 helmet! APBA states that it must be SNELL/DOT approved and 250.00 is a very good price to pay. check out www.sandhillspowersports.com and they have the BEST prices around..let me know if can help you get one soon!I may be able to get one a lil cheaper than what you see.

$65!!!! There is no way I would race with that thing. There are many helmets with the SNELL/DOT rating that is required. If you get the ones that are a little more expensive the liners can be removed to wash. A good thing when they are always getting wet. The smells can get pretty bad in these things. I got mine here:

I forgot to answer a couple more of your questions.

The big difference between a $500 helmet and a $200 one may be weight and whatever graphic/paint is on it.

If your racing closed course most people use a Motocross style helmet with Goggles. Oakley H2O are my preference.

If your racing endurance you may want to find something that does not have a visor or remove it. I have noticed that 70+mph for many miles takes its toll on the neck when you have a sail on your forehead.
