    Carb cleaning? Help?!

    Hey fellas...
Getting to be that time of the year, last summer you guys helped me out a TON, and I greatly appreciated it! Already been lurking alot this year, about to get my ski going again... already got a new thumbthrottle, new hydro turf..... anyway my question is this.....

....coming from a newb who isnt such a great mechanic (im way better with exterior than the interior of the ski, ha) What is the easiest and best way to do same basic carb cleaning? The previous owner of my 96 SLX 780 didnt ever do any real work on it, but last year, minus the whole cone bearing failure thing, it ran great. This year I just want to do everything right.... gimme details... THANX!

Lurking for a while = good to hear.

You have downloaded the 1992-1998 Service manual - correct?

You have searched for threads on rebuilding and cleaning Mikuni Super BN carburetors, and sources for rebuild kits (if you need them).

Searching and reading the forums, you know about the common maintenance items for Fuji engined Polaris PWC.

BTW, easiest and best often don't occur at the same time, where mechanical maintenance issues are concerned.

So, having read through the relevant threads, what can we help you with?

hmmmm already tried all that my friend.... I couldnt get the manual to download for some reason, I did search all the Polaris forums, but nothing came up. I was shocked to see nothing about it, so Im assuming I just did something wrong there as far as the searching goes.. and nope, dont know a whole lot about fuji issues, not much of a mechanic, but wanting to learn.... ill search again... thanks

Searching is not working for you - hmmm.

Clear your browser's cache, and be sure you are using the most recent update of the browser. I use Firefox most of the time.

Also be sure you have installed the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader

When searching, use Advanced Search. Leave the User Name field blank.

Click in the Key Word(s) field, and type the word you want to search for. Keep this simple, just one or two words.

Click on Polaris Personal Watercrafts in the Search in Forums list.

Select the Posts checkbox beside Show Results As, then click Search Now

Welcome back. Not a bad idea to remove the carbs from the engine for a thorough cleaning. While you're at it, you may want to replace the fuel hoses (about $20). Also clean out the fuel shut off valve just for good measure.

Record all the carb adjustment screw settings for each individual carb so you can return them to where they were. Count the amount of turns (or partial turns) IN and write it down.

Then completely disassemble the carbs, adj. screws and all. NOTE: you don't need to remove the carb backs from the support plate. Just unscrew the 4 corners securing the back to the carb body.

Clean the internals and blow compressed air through all passages.

Then reinstall and return adj. screws back to previous settings.

    Reinstall carbs onto intake manifold.

One other option for the carbs is sending them to Randy at Watcon and getting them rebuilt for 50 bucks each plus the parts needed.
You'll know they are set up right and that pop off pressure is checked. You'll know no little parts gets damaged or lost and you'll even get free tech support on the install IF needed.
