    Angry 2001 RXDI Woes

This thing has been pretty good to me until this last batch of headaches.
Apparently it was losing fuel pressure which caused it to cut out at WOT(7k rpm) It ran great up to WOT and then only cut out sporadically.
I bought a new fuel pump and filter and now I have a differnt problem.
It doesn't pull as strong as it used to and won't turn over 6k rpms.
It doesn't cut out sporadically like it did before. Now it simply won't turn over 6k. It runs OK at 5950 or 3/4 throttle. Opening it up only makes it stumble and miss almost like the rev limiter is kicking in.
I've changed the plugs and the RAVE valves look pretty good.
The battery is OK @ 12.8v
I don't have any MAINT light flashing or beeping issues.
    What else can I check?

The DI is a touchy machine. make sure your mpem doesn't have any corrosion on the MPEM Connectors.

Usually anytime you have an issue like that right at 6K rpm it is the due to the RAVE valves not opening. It could be the solinoid, and air leak from a busted hose or the valves them selves are just gunked up and sticking. I have to clean mine at least once a year to keep the ski from doing the exact thing you are describing.

Thanks for the Ideas. My RAVES don't look bad. I'll check for a broken line.
I assumed if they were sticking it would bog not cut out like it's missing.
ANy easy way to check the solenoid?

There was a post on sea-doo.net that indicated that a failed reed valve will cause conditions that are similar to what you're describing.

    Here's the link: http://www.sea-doo.net/board/thread.asp?threadid=94141

It's somewhat disturbing to read the two different sites and see that there are numerous DIs that have been very difficult and expensive to repair.

My '01 RX-DI has been awesome but I'm thinking about selling it before I run into some of the problems that I've read about.

Good luck with you ski and please let us know what you've found.

Also check the passages where the air hoses attach to the housings for any blockage.

You only read about the di's that have issues. Most of them don't so you never read posts from their owners.
Mine has been great for 245 hours. As it turns out it looks like my problem may have been a simple broken hose. I'll know Saturday.
    Zero cost to fix.

I agree that you tend to only hear about the DIs that have problems - the vast majority run just fine.

Good luck with your repair - the best fixes are the ones that cost nothing.

I did replace the fuel pump at 240 hours. Other than that it has been awesome. My latest issue wasn't related to being a DI. It turns out the small hose form the Compressor to the RAVE solonoid had a small crack in right where it connects to the barb on the compressor. Wouldn't rev over 6k. Sounded like an ekectrical problem. Took it out Sat and it Screams!!!!!
I need to do the resonator bypass next.
