Thread: Strange engine

    Strange engine

    This is a 94 Slt750, I just changed a jug and a piston and this evening I start the engine first time, seems to be running fine for me because I don't know too much about this engines but now comes the interesting part. If I remove the first or the second plug wire the engine is still runing apparantely the same even with bought wires off but when I remove the the third wire only the engine stops. This means that the 1 and 2 pistons are not working? If I leave the engine runing they seems to get warm. I have no idea where to start. Can be the carburetors or the compression? Where should I start? Any ideas?

    Start with compression and let us know what the numbers are.

    Have you check to see if you have spark on all cylinders?

    First off, Welcome to the Hulk.

    Please DO NOT remove spark plug wires from a running engine. You may damage the CDI unit.

    I'd look into ohm testing the coils after you try the compression test if you find that to be good.

    There is spark for sure, I haven't got a presure tester yet, I will get one tomorrow and I will let you know the results.

    Thanks 1996SLTX, I will do so. Last update on my engine. I checked the compression and is 105, 103 and 105 psi, dont know how good it is. But I found what seems to be the problem, there is an air valve I think on the gas return and there is a clear hose that goes to the carburetor, when I start the engine I saw gas going to the carburetor through the line, so
    I think that is the problem. So I caped the line and I run the engine Wich died on me after a while, I couldn't start it again I need a new battery. I will try to find that valve. By the way can I find a battery without maintenance for the ski?

    And yes you can get a maintenance free battery, check Odyssey and Interstate??
