    shaving or decking head

has anyone here shave their head on a 2001 gp1200r. I was wandering how much you can take off. If I can't find out I'll probably take .02'' off

Ryan welcome to the forum. There are 3 guys who are experts on this, jim's performance, islandracing, and lhorning. Check out this link and maybe you could contact one of them for specs.

For a 100$ or so you might be better off just letting one of them do it so you have piece of mind it's done right. Thats what I did

Don't know where you are, but sent mine from WA to Jim, had it back in great time, and the work was awesome. I say send it to Jim as well.

I ama machinist by trade so doing the work is not a big deal. I just need to know how much to take off. I searched different post and I saw one guy who said he took off .08'' and another who took off .035''. I took a measurement and there seems to be only.035'' of a lip on the head until you hit steel all the way around the head. so I am thinking .08'' is definately too much.

    A little hint...

A 1200 piston is 80mm... you can take the step or "lip" off and mill down till the width of the squish band retains 80.5mm
