    hone work for new pistons

lemme rephrase this i hate doing stuff on my pda ,

went to the machine shop for work to my new top end ,

guy said there at 7 at the bottom and 9 at the top which is all ready the spec the pistons needs ,

he said when he does the hone it will make it come out to 8 and 10 piston wall clearence ,

which the spec sheet called for 7-10 ,

he said since we are already there he wont do very much ,

so in a sense have any body gotten away with the specs being out a one or a few hairs of clearence ?

    You'll be fine.

I check mine by trying to wiggle the piston around in the cylinder

the clys are real tight i stuck them in there with the domes off while it was all still togethor ,

when i pulled it out it kinda make a vacuum and wouldnt let me pull it out to fast , its so tight if the rings were left alone i couldnt get em in there

there takeing care of getting the rings in to spec also i just wanted a shop that didnt have a 2 week waiting list i hope i dont pay for it later but im confident they'll do a awesome job becuase they have done my friends stuff before besides being to pricey he loves these guys

10 thousandths over? Why would you rebuild and have cylinders at the max wear limit from the start?

Have the shop recheck their spec. sheet. Piston to cylinder wall clearance : .0055"-.0065" (.14mm-.16mm) limit .010" (.25mm) as per the 92-98 factory manual found on this site.

WSM calls for .010" piston to wall clearance? I'm not a machinist and I didn't stay at Holiday Inn express last night but .010" is .25mm which is the first "oversize" you would normally bore to.

My WSM 1050 kit hasn't arrived yet but my 780 kit last summer called for .005 clearance.

If I'm missing something here please set me straight.

No, I'm thinking thousands. I reread your first post thinking maybe you had .25mm oversized pistons and because of cylinder wear only needed honing as opposed to boring.

I dunno, I feel like I'm missing something right in front of my face. Either way ten thousands of an inch clearance seems high.

    Anybody else reading this?

machine works shows back up monday we'll see ill post pictures and specs ,

does the base gasket need 1211 ?

i love that stuff , guy said i was real close to the specs on the pistons and he said he was gonna try to keep it like that dureing the power hone ,

dont qoute me on the numbers since i droped them off last monday but we will see ,

i just wanted to use my topend i bought off ebay right around when i bought the ski for super cheap 120 $ shipped ebay but the guy sold em becuase he had oversized bore on all the clys and one cly had a quater size hole in the wall , so once he got a new cly and the pistons noticed things werent right he sold em becuase he couldnt return them , but hopefully my newbish ways paid off and its gonna work ,

but just messing around i coated it in oil stuck one in there while it was still togethor it kinda made a vacuum even with no rings on it

so i just hope my clys are not eggshelled and go from there
