    Pump shoe carnage.

Well, i went out yesterday on the RXT for the second time this spring and while doing a GPS run i felt a jolt and something went through the pump. I pulled it out of the water and confirmed my worst fears. THe intake grate had broken AGAIN! This time a large section of the pump shoe broke off and went through the pump. What a way to start the season. I just got done putting a new grate on and a girdle. This is such a shitty design. There has to be a better alternative.

    glad you are ok

get all that silicone out of there, im sure that created a lot of drag and didnt help the situation. i have never ever used any silicone at the ride plate end only the front side

WOW. Glad you didn't get hurt. I can believe it cracked like that. I am wondering though it looks the girdle you made may have not been making good contact with the grate. Is it possible that the girdle was bowing and putting stress on the grate?

Before this happened the silicone was silky smooth and thats how i always run. I think it just looks bad because it was tore out.

The girdle was making contact but if these stock grates aren't making even contact at all points they give up. I have 3 that cracked in exactly the same spot. Once the bosses let go the first time it's hard to get things to ever line up right again. The bow in the girdle is from keeping a 75mph tank at 66mph. LOL

Hopefully i can get this resolved and never have to worry about it again. Time to send jim the rideplate and align everything right with the engine and shoe.

I had my inserts pull out. I got the PPG kit and taped the support hole and put in there inserts. Been ok so far.
