I need help w/ repairs in NC

Anyone in the RDU/Triangle NC area interested in working on my Yamaha ski's? Two (GP800/XL1200) have bad engines and dealer wants $3-$4K per machine.I am considering an SBT reman. and rebuilding the carbs. I have no experience so I would like to pay you for the service.

I would, but I am behind by 8 skis right now...

I dont think anyone on here would recommend sbt. If you do go that route get the extended war.

What is the problem with the skis?

The dealer says that the GP800 engine is seized (will not crank)and the XL1200 has a bad cylinder w/ no compression (no power/shuts off after 2-3 mins). I would really like to repair the XL1200, but the GP800 may not be worth it. I may just sell the hull if it is not repairable. Dealer will not rebuild/repair only replace engines.

Do you think the 1200 can be rebuilt or would you recommend new engine as well? I am considering selling the GP800 as is repairing the 1200 and buying a new three seater

    Thanks, Bill

how many hours on each? Did the dealer determine what was the cause on each ski? The gp800 seems like they are saying the crank is locked, could be the pump, but probably the motor. You really will not know about the 1200 until the cylinder comes off whether the crank is still good or not then you have the option of rebuilding and how much it is going to cost you.

Here is the thing with sbt, if you are not capable of removing and installing the motor its pointless. Even though there is a warranty you will be charged each time to install and remove the engine by the dealer.
