Unhappy Turns over but wont start

92 Seadoo GTS......gasket outside wear ring/impeller is gauged.......when trying to start there's good compression and spark but won't turn over. Loud grinding sound coming from flywheel area..... any advice on what the possible issue is? Clutch? flywheel??? How do you also KNOW if the actual wear ring is bad as well??? Ski just died while out on water and wouldn't restart.

Pull the pump, then pull the plugs. Try turning the pump to see if there is any binging. If there is binding, something is lodged in the pump. Try turning the engine over by hand. It should spin easily with the plugs out. If it doesn't turn easily, you have some type of internal problem... Ron
