    my slx wont start

hey guys, i have a 96 slx, and i fried the stator/stator wires last fall, and just put in a brand new stator last wek. put fuel in it and went to fire it up today, and i have no spark. The lanyard is installed, the battery is cranking the engine over fast, so i imagine the battery has sufficient charge...any ideas? Could i have fried anything else?

    Welcome to the hulk.

Press and hold the bilge switch while cranking and see if you get spark.

I'd also like to say WELCOME to the Green Hulk Forums!
As I recall the most common reason for burned wiring at the stator is a poor ground and the system tries to ground through the teeny weenie ground wire to the stator.
You may have taken out the CDI when your stator shorted to ground.
I’d split the electrical box and check for water damage (corrosion and breaks), especially under the board.
Test the coil, start/stop switch and even your new stator. If all else checks good, replace or borrow a CDI and see if she fires.

thanks for the welcome! Where is the bilge switch? The reason the stator burht was i had the wrong battery in the machine and the box shorted out on the batt terminal....the electrical box looks good. no signs of water damage. I was sure it would fire right up after replacing stator, but no go! hows the best way to test the stop switch? How do i test the coils? When the stator fried it burnt the wires all the way from the electrical box to the stator.

I bet you need a CDI...since the stator plugs into it in your box.

Ahhhhh, more pieces to the puzzle.
I agree, new CDI will be needed.
To test the other items listed, although I don't think you'll need to now, check the tech section for the service manuals.

Welcome to the Hulk. These guys have guided you into the right direction. One small other thing you can try, is to unscrew the spark plug boots, clip the plug wires back about 1/4" and re-screw the plug boots back on. Then re-ziptie the boots. Although I don't think this is the problem if your battery shorted against the aluminum elec. box....

    Polaris part number cross reference

Look up your model and year, find the part number, then click on Usage, to the right of the part description.
