    Gibson Muffler tested today

Today, 4-27-08, Bigbuck and myself were able to test the new Black Magic Headers Gibson muffler on our skis. We did back to back testing with the shorty water box for a baseline then the Gibson. On both our skis we saw a 40-50 RPM increase.

Bigbuck has the C-Kit installed on an 06 RXP, I have the Stage III supercharger on my RXT. Bigbuck was running 8540-8560 with 82mm ring on the Gibson. 8500-8520 on the shorty.
I ran 7760-7800 with my 80mm ring and the Gibson. 7740-7760 shorty. We both saw a modest rpm increase on our already modified skis.

We tried running wet and dry and found no difference in performance or volume mentioned below.

    Observations:

Installation - quick and easy. It fits perfectly. Nice and small. Just cut the j-pipe to 1/2" below the weld, put the couplers on and bolt it up.

Acceleration - much improved low end and mid range torque. It made my RXT jump out of the water at WOT from dead stop. I could usually lean forward and hold it down but it still jumped with the Gibson.

Volume - IMO it has a pleasing deeper sound sort of like the old glass pacs from the 60's. It's a lower frequency than the shorty. We did not notice a remarkeable reduction in the volume of the sound but being at a lower frequency it sounded great.

Overall - well constructed. Nice shiney stainless throughout. For modified skis we think it is an improvement over the shorty waterbox.

For un-modified skis thinking about buying a shorty we would recommend this muffler first which should give a 200 or better rpm increase. (Sorry Jerry)

Thats pretty awesome that your able to get another 50 RPM over the GH WB. Basically 45 bucks over the GH for another 50RPM.

Regarding the low end... is that over the GH?

Our tests were without the headers. I can't speak to them.

You mean low end torque, if so, yes.

I really think it was worth the trouble. I would have liked to have seen more rpm's I think it's still a worthwhile mod. Consider that we had already gained 200 rpms with a 4" intake and shorty waterbox, we'd be hard pressed to get very much more out of the exhaust.

stock exhaust manifold, stock j-pipe... just take everything else out... slip a gibson muffler on there which has a nice deep tone, beautiful shine, and gain a little more RPMs over the next best thing or 200+ rpms over stock... AND gain acceleration at holeshot AND midrange over any other exhaust currently available...all for $320 bucks....

that's what i call bang for the buck....NICEEEEE
