Replacing trim motor 97 Sl 1050

Hey i got referred to greenhulk from sbt, they said you guys were great.

Anyways i have a 97 SL 1050 and i need some advice before i yank my trim motor out and replace it. The trim stopped working at the beginning of last year, what are the common things to check that might cause this to go out, or do i need to replace the trim motor?

    Thanks

    Kyle

    Welcome to the Green Hulk!
For Polaris PWC info and support, this is the place.

Do a search of the Polaris sections. There have been some threads recently regarding testing, fixing and repairing the trim motors.

Download the 1992-1998 Service manual. Lots of good info in there.

There is also info on here regarding common maintenance items that should be checked or changed before they cause trouble. Search and read, there is lots here. Questions are welcome, of course.

Welcome to the land of Polari...

Pop open the electrical box and apply 12 volts the the trim wires and see if the motor is good. If the motor is good than ohm out the switch..

Hi mt, I'd also like to say WELCOME to the Green HUlk Forums!!
You'll find a lot of guys have removed the motor (after is was found to be bad), cleaned the gears and re=assembled with great results. Some guys have gotten quite creative and found RC car motors for replacement in the trim box.
You can also buy good used tested units from guys like Randy at Watcon, John Zigler, Jay at Atlantic and even some of the members here.
She's a purty boat, thanks for the pictures!!

    Happy Testing.

It looks pretty bad BUT pull it off the transmission and try it just for giggles. Of course if it's bad, maybe throw up a classified real quick and see how you do??

You need to split the transmission, watch the gear locations and then unscrew it from the inside...if memory serves me right.
