Is it possible to hard anodize the intake grate?

Since it will be some time before the 1200 grate will be made out of SS, I was wondering if the cast intake grate could be hard anodized. From what I remeber billet and forged parts are better candidates because of the more uniform density of the raw stock; not sure if cast will plate evenly??
Another thought I had was electroplating the grate in nickel or chromium.
    Any alloy specialists out there??

    Regards,
    jp

Why are you wondering? hard anodizing won't make it stronger.

it will just make it look better when it breaks. You can't change whats inside of it.

I would think that only so much can be done to help the strength of pot metal... how about cryo-treating (like what's done with transmissions or brake calipers)? Or shot peening?

Of course, all of this probably would be less cost-effective than just buying the SS grate...

We have done alot of cryo on alum.. I doubt it will help the grates. Its shit metal (excuse my french). Really no other way around it.

You could get it xrayed then cryo - we have done that to alot of alum castings. All of the military stuff I have done was xrayed 100%. But its $$. And the grate is still a poor casting with low grade alum. Best to buy one of Jerry's SS grates.

It's not about buying GH's grate, but for my riding conditions the 800 grate serves no purpose. Jerry mentions that the 1200 is not prone to failure as the 800 is; but considering the quality of the part, they both should be available in SS. All you need is debris to tap the 1200 and you run the risk of failure. It's proven that the quality of the aluminum which these grates are made of is crap. It's unfortunate that due to poor initial sales figures, the 1200 won't even become a production consideration. Heck it looks like the 800 may not make production either. Yes the price is high, more than the RIVA/Solas SS wear ring, but considering the safety issue I can't see why the initial run is having trouble.
