    Best stock Yamaha to start with

    My choices are between a 99 XLT and a 2001 GP 1200R. Looking to get speed and stable turning. Are they both power valve motors? Did the stock motor change much from 1999 to 2000? Is either motor more reliable or easier to work on/mod? Any help would be appreciated!

    The XLT is a boat compared to the GPR...
    I dont think that a single pipe XLT has seen over 70mph

    The gpr is a lighter boat and you can do and spend as much as you can afford to on it my choice of the two if you are wanting to ride with only 1 to 2 people!

    Both motors are 66V powervalve 1200cc powerplants.

    There are quite a few single pipe xlt's well over 70 actually! Just costs a lot to get there!

    Is there a major difference in gas mileage between a stock XL 1200 ltd and a GP 1200R?

    Both are pretty terrible. After an hour of hard riding on a GPR, i'm down to a quarter tank.

    If you take it easy with them, they will go a long ways. If you're like a lot of us and have it pinned, just remember you have 3 carbs suckin hard.

    holly crap wow my 800 gets a hell of a lot more although im a hell of a lot slower LOL
