and yet another cracked 800 grate

Look at the two photo's ,see the crack, this was clgpr's grate, we were just crusing around the lake at about 75 mph gps sunday when his grate cracked, there is a shiny dent on the top, this look's to be the start of the crack. Im not sure if he hit a carp, bass,or maybe a catfish, but something put that small dent right where the crack starts....moral of this storey is to always check your grate and if your name is on the list please buy the damm stainless steel grate before you get chunked off your ski and eaten by carniverous small mouth perch with bad attitudes.....lol

I'd love to get the SS grate, but the 800 doesn't suit my type of water.
I realize the 800 needs to be addressed since it's used mainly on top speed set-ups and is the one which consistanty cracks.
It's situations like yours, where the grate hits something and a crack develops. Yours was caught very early and may not have been noticed by someone else, it's very well hidden.
Hopefully the 1200 issue gets adressed down the road, however long that road may be...

Did you modify the grate from standard in any way at all or have the grate shimmed on your ski besides taking it out of the packet and bolting it up

actually...ben H. the man himself bolted this stock untouched grate to the hull.....no shims...no nothing....The reason the grates fail ,in my opinion, is stuff hitting it and causing small cracks that develop into big cracks...I took this photo in 6 meg format so
that you could enlarge it...look at the casting grain of the stock aluminum...lots of areas for a crack to develop.....I have a 800 grate on my ski that I buffed to a sheen with scotchbrite pad on my nesco grinder ,sort of stress releiving the surface..it has lasted for 3 years so far.....the grate in the photo was a few months old......crap shoot

That "dent" is not from hitting anything. It comes that way from R&D, and yours cracked where every other grate fails - the right side of the vertical bar when holding it in your hand. Congratulations - you've been screwed by R&D like the rest of us!

Yeah, my 800 grate had one of those same "dents" when bought new.

It's not from hitting anything, they all break on that same casting line.

I am willing to bet that someone running an 800 has never broken an 800 grate

Of course there is someone running an 800 that has never broken one. However, there are many that have. In my experience the grates than come with a dimple are more prone to cracking. I have seen some grates that do not have this dimple but I don't trust any of them.
