    vinyl questions. (seats)

Basically i brought a used gsx 96 and the vinyl seats are ripped. The guy gave me another set of vinyl. Basically i took all the staples out, but i notice the sponge on the original vinyl sticks on. So how am i going to put the new vinyl on when i don't have the sponge. Can i just put the new vinyl on top of the ripped vinyl? Because it should work rite? Hope someone can answer this simple question. Thanx.

I did..It seems to work fine..THis seat was orginally red and ripped up. I bought one of those cheap ebay cover for it. Its not going on that ski, but my red 97 gsx. It seems to do the trick though. My new cover will be a hydroturf one, and I am thinking it will be the same process.

most people cover over the old vinyl.
make sure you use stainless steel staples.
you can also heat the new cover with a hairdryer to stretch it on easier.
get it lined up put a few staples in to get alignment perfect. then heat /stretch and work your way around evenly.
many upholstery shops will do it for nt too much money aka 40 bux...

the regular staples will rust. the cover will start coming off after a couple of seasons.

You can also buy monel staples. Available were ever the others are ususally sold. Before you rip the seat all apart, make sure your gun can sink staple s in seat. If old stuff is ripped and torn badly, I would remove it and fill any voids or missing pieces of foam any place needed.
