    Shorty waterbox for the X.....

got tired of waiting so we fabbed one up, the inlet design on the X is IMO much better than the j pipe on the older skis. basically ended up using the front part of the box just for that reason. putting a thru hull tip in the back now, should be running by the weekend... we will see what happens..

Nice work!!! Did you do anything on the inside of the box? I though about going this route but using a J pipe was sooooo much easier.

the box is basically open, did drop the exit tube into the box and left it about 2-3 inches off the bottom. freed up tons of room with the rear exit exhaust and the short box, you can actually see daylight in there now.

yeah, I was thinking the outlet needed to loop up just a bit higher, otherwise water will fill the box, then fill cyls w/ open exhaust valves. A simple push of the start button would then ruin your day.....

even higher than it is? its sort of an optical illusion the way i took the picture with it proped up on its side and me shooting down over it, how much higher would you recommend the bend be?

I would think that the bend needs to be above where the waterline is on the hull. That way water can't flow back in. I'm not sure though.

others have run similar exit pipes, straight off the back of the box.
some have run a straight pipe from the upper area of the rear of the box like you did, others have run a pipe from the bottom rear of the box!!!!
as long as you are conscious of the water backfill issue and dont sit wuth 3 people on your ski for 1/2 an hour, i think it wil be fine, as long as the ski is running you will never get any backsurge.
just dont let it sit in teh water for hours cuz there is potential for water filling up your waterbox and possibly flooding even further up the exhaust tract back into the engine.
people have run just a rubber hose to the thru hull, no waterbox at all, and havent had any catastrophies yet...

it looks like the Tpipe is much bigger this year, is the actual exhaust tip of the Tpipe larger diameter than the J pipe, or just a larger water jacket and rubber coupler???

that exit pipe looks small compared to the inlet pipe.
i bet people will be going to a 3 inch rear exhaust soon...

I'm going to go ahead and put another inch or so of rise on it just to be safe. I figure it can't hurt. The exhaust pipe actually is three inch. I can't imagine what running a straight tube would sound like.
