    Any VW techs here?

Anyone a VW tech? We have a 84 cabriolet(actually still a rabbit convertible that year) that has an issue.

It runs perfect. Starts great, cold weather, runs good, except for one certain time. If the temp outside gets around 80 and above, it does not want to restart after it has been running for awhile. If the temp is cooler, it will restart perfectly. Its not the engine temp that is doing it, it is the same temp at 60 as at 80.

Its got me baffled. I just got it out for the summer, and it ran great yesterday(low 70's) then today was in the 80's, and there it goes. It actually ran ok for half the day, but as the day got hotter, it did it again. I went to get it now( 3 hours later) it ran fine. The temp is about 10-15 degrees cooler out.

When I tried to restart it initially, it would not fire. I remember from last year, when it does fire, it seems flooded...takes a bit of revving to clean it out.

    So, any suggestions?

    Thanks REG

What happened to WP/500 or whatever his name was? He started out every response with something about his extensive VW experience then translated it into a jetski discussion. That guy knows a ton about these cars. Hopefully he'll chime in...

It seems like a vapour lock. There are a few things to check evidently, all related to the fuel system.

    Thats what I think adambomb

Today it actually sputtered and died while driving, which made me hope the pump had crapped out. I went back in 2 hours to get it, and it started and ran fine. Dammit.

I think I will buy a pump and see what happens.
