    SLX780

I have a '96 slx780. The engine is shot. Big chunk missing out of the bottom. I have a '94 SL750 with a good engine but hull is damaged. Are these engines interchangeable. Can I use the 750 engine in the 780 body. Also will the CDI from the 750 fit on a 96 SL700. Thanks.

Another idea. How about the 750 bottom with the 780 jugs and carbs?

    The engines are interchangeable.
The cdi from the 750 will not work on the 700. The 750 is fuji and the 700 is a domestic engine. Different in many ways.

Correct, the 750 bottom end with the 780 top end will work.

    The 700 is a domestic 2 cyl with the 750 being a Fuji 3 cylinder. Won't work.

Kewl. Thanks. I picked up a '96 SLX780 for $300 here. Everything works and is in excellent shape but the big crack in the block. I'm going to rebuild the 780 engine with my 750 engine base and part the rest of the 750 out to make some of my money back. The '96 SL700 I have needs a CDI. I didn't know if the 750 would work or not. Thats not bad its only around $60 anyways for the one for the 700 i believe.

you might need the ignition update kit for the 700. You need to confirm which style you have, old or new. The old ones were junk and the stators go bad causing a no spark issue.
