Why would you use silicone at all?

There should be a rubber sealing ring around the lip of the case. Just smear some dielectric or at least waterproof grease along the seal, and close it up. Should seal perfectly.

If the rubber seal is missing, get a new one. Makes it a lot easier to get into the box the next time.

If you must use silicone make sure it is sensor /electronics proof as the vapours in some silicones eat into the electronic circuit boards etc and cause problems

    Cheers
