    SL 750 94' Engine problems

    Guys -

I have a 750 SL that took on water due to the shop not putting the water outlet tube back on the fitting through the hull and it sunk quite quickly..

Since then, it hasn't worked right. but has good compression, cranks, idles okay. replaced the electronics box with known good but when ever I give it more than 1/4 of the throttle on the throttle control, it stays the same speed/rpm and doesn't increase speed.

I'm perplexed. I've replaced everything.. plugs, bat, FULL elec box. Same symptoms.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

    Welcome to the Hulk J.

What RPM does it stay at?

What elec box was it replaced with?

I'm thinking if it's 4200 RPM, you may have a CDI in "limp mode"

If you have a 780 CDI installed, it may be reading low fuel, low oil, or overheat and limit the RPM.

OR the carbs need to be torn apart and cleaned thoroughly. Especially if it was a sunk ski.

    Thanks.

It idles around 1100, 0-1/4 throttle hits 3K'ish, 1/4 throttle -> Full throttle stays at 3K'ish.

It was replaced with a working pull from a gutted 750. like for like.

Even if it was a sensor, fuel is full, oil is 7/8, start from cold. no red alert light of any other problem.

Do the 750 CDI have a limiter?

I'm perplexed with this. The Carbs were cleaned out also. Forgot to mention that.

Seems like this is something REALLY simple, or something REALLY bad.

    Thanks!

Did the engine ingest any water?

Might want to check the crank index, also check the stator coils with a meter.

Carbs were cleaned, was pop-off checked?
Any chance the carbs were not assembled correctly?

Fuel pump actually producing pressure (2PSI idle, 6PSI at WOT)?

    Fuel line restrictor in place?
