Dead 2002 XLT800 - No power to gauges
I have a strange thing happening on my 2002 XLT800. When I put the key on, I get nothing on the gauges. The start button does nothing. If I press the mode button, the display reads start. I can lock and unlock the ski by entering the code, so that is not the problem. I checked the resistance in the key switch, the start button, and the stop button and all check ok. Any ideas. A dealer told me it is a bad cluster, but I want to be sure before I buy one. That leads me to my next question. Anyone have a set for sale?

What about a bad starter relay?

When you press the start button it should say "START", even with a bad relay. You did check both of the fuses, right?
Open the CDI box and jump the start switch wires (I don't know which one they are, off the top of my head).
You can also jump the starter relay while pressing the start button and see if it fires.

Get a meter on the relay and see if you get power to it when you hit the start button, this will tell you if the relay is bad.
