How do you compress hood shock

I need to compress the shock to get the hood back on. It is kicking my butt. Any suggestions?

Just put the front hood bolt in first this will allow you to lift the hood high enough to slide the shock rod in and use the hood as leverage to push the shock down and install the other 2 shorter bolts. make sure you put a rag or something under the tip of the hood so it doesent get sratched when tipping the hood forward. Hope this helps!

There is an oblong hole in the triangular stainless plate that is meant for you to put a 1/2" drive ratchet or breaker bar there for leverage to compress the gas lift support. Works great.

I had the same problem this past weekend, you wont ever be able to compress it. Like in the previous post, you need to remove 2 of the hood bolts. Kinda werid how a 200lb person cant compess this, but a 10 lbs hood can. Good luck.

I wrapped a nylon cinch strap around the length of the shock compressed it pulled the stap tight then installed the compress shock.

Try the 1/2" drive ratchet first. You'll see how easily you can compress the gas lift support. Before I learned of this I would have to loosen all the bolts and gradually tighten them. Much quicker when done the proper way.

I assemble new skis at work and many rxps etc and always do it the way speedskixp described. I have also done it as Tom does and it works well to.
