Error Code P 1681 and 'Key'
I go to start the ski and 'key' flashes on the dash along with error code P 1681: communication error - instrument cluster message missing. Anyone have any ideas other than checking the fuses? The same key started the machine yesterday..Is it trying to tell me the key isn't fully secure on the DESS post?

Yes, I think that is what it trying tell you. Mine did that the other day and I unplugged the lanyard , plugged it back in and it hasn't happened since. I would make sure the lanyard and dess are clean and making good contact.

Ok, thanks for the confirmation. I wiggled the sh*t out of the key and it finally started after a few attempts. Now that the fun's over, it's time to get back to the real problem -- P0112

Had the same prob with p0112. Ran the bike and got a p1202 and limp mode. Unplugged the tops and planked the hole now the bike runs perfect. Now I only have a p0113 cause the tops is unplugged.
Hope this helps ya

TOPS is one of the two ideas I have left. You're talking about the actual valve on the engine, not the switch mounted to the MPEM, correct?
I also keep getting this 1681 code and 'key' flashing. It never did that before, even with the engine running like shit since it's origin. I'm thinking of replacing my starter, giving my battery a long charge, and maybe swapping solenoids to see if that clears it up. My gauges keep lighting up as it trys to crank. Then when it won't start, the gauges go out. I hit start again and then the 'key' flashes.

Yeah talking about the actual tops valve/ solenoid.
As for your other ghosts I would also check and make sure all the battery terminals and the ground wires on the front of the engine are clean. Also take the battery to be tested or if you have a load tester do it yourself, a low battery will have you chasing all kinds of non existant shit

The battery is a brand new RIVA gel cell Checked all grounds etc. Thanks for the advice.

Have you tried a new MPEM modual yet?? it seems like you have alot of error codes coming up, I would try a new mpem, clear off the ECU and see what happens, some of the codes it is throwing are very strange, just give me a call!!, I will do my best to help!
