Stock waterbox mod VS GH shorty?

I want to add Riva pro intercooler and Riva stage III supercharger, and possibly the 42lb injectors if needed.

So I am debating a few options:
    1) My stock waterbox has the baffles cut out and using rear exhaust. The J pipe and the pipe extending down into the waterbox are still stock lengths. Should I mod the water box more by cutting them like in the water box mod of the how to section
    2) Buy the GH shorty setup.
    3) Replace stock waterbox with TDR waterbox
    4) Just leave it as is and throw the new SC and IC in.

Not sure if I will see much gains with other waterbox options since mine is already modified. Thanks in advance for the info.

If you toss in the IC and S3 charger, you will need to go either 42's or a Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator (RRFPR)...

The exhaust is open already, all you can either do is flare the end the Jpipe for a little extra flow, or replace with a Green Box...Here is a link to some flow work I did on a gutted box and a Green Box...

Yes, I also plan on also doing the 42lb injectors.

Very nice writeup. I had heard about your flow numbers but could never find them.
I noticed the stock gutted waterbox you showed was shortened a lot. Do you think that shortening my gutted box would give a little extra power or RPM? Should I also cut the pipe inside the waterbox? Mine is still there.

Just trying to get the most out of what I have before spending more money. Would rather spend the extra money on IC and SC.

For all my flow numbers, just do a search for posts in the 4Tec performance area that have AIRFLOW in the title...

Its length has not that much affect on flow, but mostly tone. Shorter is raspier, longer in deeper...The one in THAT test was about the average size that people cut it down to, hence it being used...

Actually, the best flow numbers we got were from a OEM box that was completely gutted, but left full length. The trick is to make the waterbox exit as FLUSH as possible...

Cutting the Jpipe will actually hurt the flow, so if its stock length, either leave it or flare it...

    thanks,

Sure...Here are some pics (best I got) that show what you would want to do...

Pic #1 shows the box as it sits in the ski...
Pic #2 shows the outlet tube that is exposed when the front is cut off...
Pic #3 shows the tube original orientation when it was in the box...
Pic #4 actually shows the inlet side of the waterbox, BUT, you must trim the OUTLET tube to be flush (as shown by red lines)...

The outlet of the box, THAT TUBE, needs to be as flush as possible. When water/exhaust is scavenged to the outlet, if there is a LIP, it will cause distruption of flow...

OK, so just make sure that none of the outlet is hanging down inside the waterbox. Is this the same for the gutted stock length as well ?

    Thanks !

OUTLET pipe on ANY waterbox mod should be trimmed flush...

Leave the INLET side alone, mmmmmkay

Thanks for the great info Danny! My waterbox will be seeing the saw once again.
