Mississippi River June 7th. Check it out.
While riding the river this weekend I came accross 3 riders who started in LaCrosse WI and were traveling all the way to Biloxi, MS! They plan on arriving in Biloxi in 7 days. They need to average 180+ miles per day. Their Yammis will get 120 miles before needed to refuel. They plan on camping on sandbars every night.
Here are some pics......

I also managed to have some excitement this weekend........the radar looked clear before heading 12 miles to the north sandbar just before lock and dam #9. I nosed up and started visiting with some boaters when the skys opened up! It started raining hard and the sky turned black! A boater passing by in the rain was yelling at us "Tornado, Tornado! YOU NEED TO TAKE COVER"! I rushed to my ski to pull out the VHF weather radio. A tornado was spotted in McGregor Iowa and was headed for us! Everyone left the sandbar Immediatly. I was going to ride back towards home but the rain was just too heavy + that is where the tornado was so I decided to ride some backwaters to Harpers Ferry where I found an empty coverd slip to duck under. I never did see a tornado but high winds with heavy rain was every where! About 45 minutes later the rain stopped and I rode down to McGregor to hear about the damage. I stopped in a tavern for a beer and checked the radar again. I stayed close to home the rest of the day!

Minnesota Boys Update
Just thought I would give an update on the boys making the Mississippi River ride to the Gulf of Mexico: Sandbar camping Saturday went well, although the terrential downpour all night made for wet sleeping bags. Sunday weather was equal to Saturday and ending up getting a motel due to flooding of all the local camping spots in Muscatine, IA. One of the Jet Ski's did end up getting a wood knot lodged in the prop (about 8:00 last night), but they reported smooth sailing this morning after removing the obstruction. They should be outside of IA now. Hopefully they will get some better weather. I will keep anyone interested updated. Thanks for posting the pics. I am sure they will have some pics once they return next Monday.

I hope they make it past Missouri! Thursday they are shutting down 270 mile stretch of the Mississippi to all river traffic. Closing locks and everything due to flooding!
