Just got a gpr800/1200 hybrid got a couple questions!

First of all, I am new to PWC's and new to this forum and I will like to say HI . I just got a 2002 GP800R ski with a 1200 engine. I have been searching around the forum and I figured it is not a Powervalve Engine. I am trying to determine which engine it is. All I know for now is it starts with a 66.

I have a couple questions/problems that I am sure that you guys can help me with.

First, the ski cavitates badly when moving from a standstill. Can you recommend a impeller/prop for me?

I need sponsons since the previous owner lost one.

I have been hearing that the grate, and rideplate should be changed. I only do ocean riding rarely in calm water what do you recomend.

When I run the ski for a while and stop, it gives a hard start, or doesnt start at all. I have to spray couple shots of starter fluid to get her going, If I idle for a few minutes and shut her off, it does the same thing. Any solutions for that prob?

Plus I have seen 63mph (SPEEDO) on 3/8 tank of fuel is that about right?

Guess what, nobody warned me about the idle-easy turnover this ski has I drank some water on my first day! I am really not comfortable riding 2 up on this ski. I am just about sure that I will be looking for a SUV or an XLT1200 to go riding with the gf.

Thanks in advance for you guys time!

PS I am a little sore cause the water was a bit rough but I HAD A BLAST!

hello, and welcome to Greenhulk. In the best interest of your pockets, please leave and delete your account now.

    Just kidding

for cavitation, I would strongly recommend you getting a Pump Plug kit. You can buy these through Jerry (owner of greenhulk) site.

    http://www.4-tecperformance.com/inde...roducts_id=153

    enter the redemption code: Greenhulk

when buying the Pump plug kit, and you will receive 10% off!

That should really help, and might even fix your cavitation problem. I had a pretty bad cavitation problem with my gp1200r, and I put a new impeller on I put a 13/19 Solas.. and it helped a little bit, but after putting the PPK in it is completely gone!

    Sponsons are pretty easy...

Riva,Beach house, R&D, or just buy a set of stock ones from somebody and step them (search stepping sponsons)

So you have a gp800r with a gp1200r engine? Or do you just have a gp1200r?

    A gp1200r is a 66v

Post some pictures of the inside of the ski... Sounds like you have a franken-ski. Theres no way to know what you got going on unless we can physically see the engine and everything else.

First off welcome!! now the motor in the picture is a 65U GP1200 motor. this is a non power valve motor. We also consider this to be old school, so I will move this thread to that section. We have lots of experts on these motors I have two myself. would you also take a pic of the ski itself, pump, and intake tunnel. this will help determine which things to reccomend.
