    SMC hull repair questions

Anyone have a good write up on SMC hull repairs? Will I be able to get SMC resin/filler at a local auto parts store?

My hurricane has a crush wound from the nose of a sl750. Here are the pics.

For a crush wound do I need to glass the backside? Do I need tear all the crushed stuff out? Can I just fill it with epoxy? I read the repair manual and the thru hull fitting example doesn't really help with this repair. Also do any chain type stores carry this, or do you get this from a marine dealer, or off the internet?

Most Marine stores have it. Most peeps use West Systems Brand.

A quick fix would be to reinforce the inside with glass cloth or rovin woving saturated in epoxy resin. The best way is to grind out the damage, reinforce the inside and fill damaged area back with epoxy filler then gel coat or paint. Depends on how involved you want to get with it.

I think I will glass the backside of the cracks. Grind out the damage and fill it with epoxy filler. I just talked to a west system dealer and the epoxy, filler powder, and harder will set me back about $60.
