    WTB: SL700 Wear Ring/Prop Shroud

Have huge clearance btw the prop and the surround. I don't know if someone replaced with wrong surround or if that's even possible. Polaris isn't really my thing, but I need ot get this tightened up cuz the ski won't get up off the line and just got brand new complete rebuild.

    Whatcha got?

    Welcome to the Hulk!

What model year is your SL700 (last two digits of the HIN number plate on the back deck)?

    How much clearance is huge?

Spec says 0.020" MAX clearance between the outside blade edges and the housing, most would consider half that to be almost too much.

Is it the impeller that is worn, or the wear ring housing around the impeller (first diagram, part 33), or both?

What about the fixed blade stator? Any damage to the fixed vanes?

You have the option of moving to an extended jet pump, which is the same as you have now, but with a 4 inch long round extension piece (second diagram, part 14) inserted in front of the stator. This moves the impeller, and everything behind the impeller, back four inches.

You would need to buy a longer drive shaft, but would experience better performance and handling. Steering cable would also need to be lengthened, or changed.

Since the wear ring on a Polaris jet pump is NOT replaceable without changing the metal housing itself, installing an extension effectively gives you a new wear ring, and your old pump mount+wear ring can remain in place.

Get a measurement of the Prop,Maybe someone stuck a early 650 prop on there. The dia. is 2 mm smaller. 148mm vs 146mm

Thanks for the info. Actually the gap is more like 1/8" or 4mm or so. it's quite large. I'm wondeing if the last perosn to own it put a different impeller in that was the wrong size or something. I can't imagine a prop wearing down that much, and it's not burnished like having been in sandy water. The housing itself looks pretty clean on the ID, not torn up at all. The gap is huge....i just assumed there was a removable wear ring that had gotten broken out or removed.

Again, i'm not a Polaris guy, only had two or three over the years.

Thanks beerdart. i'm going to have to yank the pump again and measure the ID of the shroud (name?) and the prop and tell you what it is. i think something must be mismatched here.

I think Dan hit it on the head with the 146mm impeller. Let us know what you find. See if there is a part number on the impeller.

Humm, Maybe a Skat custom 144mm Prop? Sounds like you just might need a good prop.

Well, I was thinking it must be the prop cuz the prop housing seemed to match the pump ID. Pulled it off last night and indeed the prop is really small and all the other parts match each other perfectly. The prop as best as i can get calipers on it measures 142mm with the pump at 148-150mm and the prop housing measuring 148 dead on.

so, the housing is fine right at 148 as mentioned above. obviously the prop is wrong. it's edges don't look worn at all, so i'm wondering if it could have been swapped in wrong, like if some threw a 140mm Doo prop in a 155mm pump??

what's the tube/shroud/housing/wear ring actually called? i'd like to use the proper terminology. i'd check the fiche but work software says no to that, lol.

i have some pics but couldn't get them off the cam in time to get to work. at this point i don't think they're even necessary.

the p/n I found on this SL are as follows:
    prop housing: 5630474
    pump: 5130983 (Rev 05)
    prop: 5131457

    Any info would be great.

    Thanks guys!

Well the Impeller part number shows it being correct. Someone must have cut it down.

Prop housing is called Impeller wear ring than you have the stator with the veins and than the nozzle.
