    Repairing intake grate fastener

I just finished rebuilding a 1996 SLT 780. O/H'd short block, new valves, o/h'd carbs, fuel pump, converted to premix and manual bildge pump. Runs fantastic overall.

One problem is that there's a hole (that doesn't leak) in the hull where I expect to find a nut or something to hold the intake grate screw.

Any ideas on how to repair this? I'm running without a grate and it bugs me like crazy.

    Thnx!

some models just had a screw and a nut to hold them on . it's easier to get at the nut if the driveshaft is out of the way but it can be done with the shaft still in the boat .

    Welcome to the Hulk!

Has the threaded metal insert pulled out of the hull?

    Photo of the area?

What do mean by 'manual bilge pump'?

Yes, the threaded metal insert has been pulled out. I can get a photo posted in the next day or so.

By "manual bildge pump", I mean I put a momentary switch in along with a new "always hot" circuit so that the bilge can be operated without the motor running (the factory method). I also have a siphon bilge so the electric now-manual system is just a backup or can be used to clear a flooded hull if that were to ever occur.

    Thanks!

There have been other threads discussing repairing inserts for ride plates and intake grates. Search across all the forums, you should find the information.

the old ones just used a long thru bolt and a nut inside the hull . I'm sure you could retro yours to work this way and not mess with the insert
