    Throttle "sweet" spot

    Hey everyone.

I have a slt 780 and when I go out to tow someone either on a board or ski's of tube, there is always a spot that the speed just jumps on the throttle....kind of a pain for wakeboarding its right around where you want to be so it makes it hard to keep a constant speed. Any thoughts what this might be or is just how this watercraft is?

Hmmm - Is it just the engine RPM reaching into the power reinforcing resonance of the exhaust pipe, or does the ignition CDI also have a fairly sharp 'curve' at a certain RPM?

I noticed my friend's 1997 SL900 is similar - gently cruising along and very mildly accelerating, add just a hint more throttle, and suddenly we are going a LOT faster.

Back off the throttle just a tad, and the RPM and speed drops right back down.

Makes for a tiring process when you don't want to go faster, and the engine keeps jumping in RPM with every twitch of the throttle...

My 780 is the same way. IIRC it's in the 4000 rpm range. Kind of like having the four barrel kick in. I use this "sweet spot" when jumping wakes. My guess would be timing curve.

This one is easy, who can explain what "getting on the pipe" means??

pirate, as a new Matrix owner YOU should certainly know what getting on the pipe feels like.

In old school dirt bike terms, it's the power band kicking in. This is unavoidable because it is a two stroke engine.
