    accelerator pumps not working

2000 pro 1200, With engine running or off when I squeeze the throttle no fuel comes out of the little tubes in the carb. What's wrong?

Just to note, I ran out of gas, after refeuling it never wrorked right again.

I seem to recall some posts mentioning needing to press the pump piston all the way in with a tool while the engine was running, then the reservoir would get properly filled with fuel, and it would continue working afterwards.

I don't recall which model or carb type that was for.

You wont necessarily be able to see them squirting fuel with the engine off. You need to back it in on a trailer, start it up and then watch. Most of the time mine wont shoot fuel when its off but as soon as you turn it on they work.

EDIT: Oh I see you say they don't work in either situation...yeah then try what K447 has said or wait for TXpro to chime in...he will have the answer. I think there is a ball or something in there that can get stuck??

TXPro will tell you to get a screw driver and push the plunger for the accelerator pump in more than the cam on the carb will, that should do it, but sound like time for a new accelerator pump-as I had to get, 20 min fix

i like to take a can of the carb cleaner with the straw and stick the straw in the line and clamp it down with plyers give it a good spary to make sure the ports dont have crap in them ,

if thats not the problem you have torn diaphram in the pump or something blocking the passage to it , or a worn out cam

Not just a torn diaphragm-most likely just see better days, some things just get old and worn out, like Al's hip

Looks like bad fuel or someone spiked my fuel, I pulled out the fuel sender and noticed a sticky substance on it and on the inside of the tank, so I siphoned out the gas and refilled with 2 gallons of fuel with 3 oz of STP fuel treatment and 3 oz of Seafoam, [ shock treatment ], started ski on the hose and in about 3 minutes the roughness went away and the accelerators tips started to spray hard like they used to, I then siphoned out the shock fuel and filled with normal 92 oct, haven't rode it yet to see how it feels. Has anybody done this before ??
