98 785 project- going fuji or Webber!

Hello, fellow polaris nuts! Just a quick run down on this project that is going to get started soon. I bought a VERY nice looking pro that susposidly had a bad crank(I just bought it for parts) Well when I got home I took the head off and found that the inside looks great(now I damn well know that crank did not work the top end) So I get a long crescent put some oil in and bam! Starts turning over!!!!!

Hehehe my excitement ends when I push the start button, no go starter sounds dead. Well 2 starters later and 5 cuts on my hands I find out its the bendix! So I pull the front cover off and salt water poars out! The flywheel is ruff, so I change it out for the 780 with stator I had laying around(thanks for the good idea Bob!) Well now I am getting the engine to turn over. So now I bust my hands up again getting that exhaust manifold on. Get some gas, put the tank back in and fire it up. Well it starts but does not sound right, and its smoking like mad, so I figure just must be the oil burning off. So I start it again same thing, well maybe I sould comp test it. 135 rear, 135 center, 20 FRONT!!!! WTF. Did I eat a ring when I started it? So I take the head off and now damage the front cylinder looks fine. Now I notice at the bottom by the exhaust port I have a small crack!!!! EEEEERRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH..

So after all that(been playing with this off and on for about 1 month) Now I need either to go with the 785 again and build it up, or I was thinking find a MSX 150 and swap the 750 out of it. Something different. What do you guy think and tell me the postive and negitives on both. Thanks again and good luck!

Yes for some odd reason it has one Weisco and 2 fuji. The weisco is standard. As for the ring snagging, I don't know but something happened!

i would pull the motor..and check the crank..chances are it needs bearings.....fresh top end piston kit..and looks like also a cylinder ....and go thru the carbs.....then ride it like a rental.....

You'll have issues with the motor mounts if you go Weber. Exhaust may not fit either.

Yes I understand the "riding it like a rental" I have an 97 that I am just waiting for the steering cable or bars to break. I rock that thing like its going out of style!

That is what I am worried about, the engine mounts might be able to get by with a custom plate. But the exhaust, hmm I do not know if the engine is too wide for the hull since it has the "spinner" chillin on the side
