A good recommendation.... (Valves and over-reving)

Well I have the rr ecu and stock valve train went across some boat wakes wot couldnt lift fast enuff floated valves now it wont start. No compression in #2. Bent valves! I highly recommend anyone with this ecu to upgrade the valve train cause it SUX being towed in and having to sit and watch everyone else ride... I've been meaning to do this upgrade and now look what, down time dammit!

What exactly should be upgraded on the valve train to run the ECU and does this apply to the 06 as well?

Charles, sorry you had to learn the hard way

    Good recommendation Austin.

The soon to be released Riva Titanium retainers would have prevented this. These retainers are also a bit thicker putting more tension on the valve springs to prevent valve float.

Another alternative and available now is the Rotax Racing lightweight valve spring retainers and valve spring shims. I don't currently have the shims in the online store, but will make it a point to get them in there quickly. I think the shims are only $12 per set.

Riva will also be releasing a tool at the end of the month to change the retainers without having to remove the head. I'll have this tool in my toolbox and will be willing to loan it out to anyone that buys the retainers thru the store.

    Thanks!
    Jerry

You read my mind, Jerry. I was looking for this thread I missed it somehow. Now I don't feel so bulletproof on my 8500+ RPM 06 RXP...

Charles, what max RPM were you turning on your ski around the time this happened?

J, if you are turning 8500 with a stock valvetrain you are playing with fire.
