    Replacing a Wear Ring??

Hi, I have a friend that has had to replace his wear ring twice on his 05 RXP We are trying to riding in a few weeks but the dealer cant take him in for some weeks! My question is how hard would it be to replace the Ring on a scale of 1-10 being the hardest? I do have some automotive and diesel mechanic skills I'm no certified mechanic but whatever it takes to save time and money! To begin I'm guessing the wear ring is probably near the prop?? The reason I say this cause he claims a friend rope through some weeds and now he's having problems and the dealer claims its probably the wear ring! And yes we checked the prop and it's weed free! any other suggestions are welcomed though! If you think it could be something else! if you have pics or links on removing the wear ring please post them for me!

    Thanks

    Just take your time.
I was shown how to do it but the first time I did it solo I placed a piece of masking tape with a number on it which correlated to a zip lock bag with hardware. It helped make sure the right screw and stuff went back to the correct location.
Plan for about 3 to 5 hours.

Look through the pump at the impeller and make sure it is clear. Notice the white plastic around the impeller...that is the wear ring.

Next, look through the intake grate under the ski. You will find the front of the impeller and wear ring. Inspect the impeller blades for any wear, bends, nics, toothpics, etc. Next, look at the wear ring where the impeller spins and check for any worn rings that the impeller, rocks, sticks, twigs, ropes, etc. may have caused.

You probably have 40-50 hours on the pump bearings...press them out and replace the wearring. If your a mechanic it's no big deal. If you don't replace the brg the WR will last about an hour.

That's not taking your time, thats taking an hour lunch halfway through the job. First time 90 min-2 hours. 30 minutes to remove pump, 30 minutes to remove wear ring and replace, 30 minutes to reinstall. After you have done it a couple of times, less than an hour.

If the freezer method does not allow to to pull the wear ring out you probably have the newer type which had to be pressed in. Someone posted a great idea a while back to get the new style rings out. Instead of cutting it with a hack saw or dremel and risk cutting into the pump housing he used a soldering iron to melt it into two pieces. Sounded like a great idea to me.
