    Wake Zone Violation

What is the fine in your area for no wake violation?
Spoke to a local water cop this weekend when he stopped me for a "routine boat inspection" as he called it. I asked how much for a violation of the wake zone. I was blown away when he told me $343. I noticed more than 5 different boats & PWCs stopped yesterday. Be careful on Lake Washington this Summer.

That is $157 cheaper than a no wake violation at Mudbug.

I heard rumor of one, but it was just something I overheard at the awards ceremony. I saw one cop on the water the whole time I was there, and JP didn't have an encounter with his favorite Sgt Dickweed either.

My lawyer friend (a part-time public defender) says they either have to have probable cause to stop you, or they have to stop every boat that passes (checkpoint). They can't do a "routine boat inspection" unless they stop all the boats. Something to do with the Constitution or something. . .

$75 at the Chain o lakes by me which I guess seem pretty cheap compared to a couple of the fines posted here. Not sure what it is on Lake Michigan..... the only no wake zones are in the harbors.

your lawyer freind is wrong...the pond cops can do a safety check on any vessel they chose as per some coast guard regulation, I was given all the facts some time ago and dont remember all the details that allows them to stop you, I had challenged the stops and was not successful, and it is abused regularly by the pond cops. I was stopped in my 30 foot cruiser by three cops for a safety check and not once did they ask to see any of my safety equipment, they only checked to see if we were sober, an which I filed a complaint.
