    Strange Carbon Ring Problem Help!

My friend rxp sunk last week in the saltwater.. fun, good thing for the gsxl to tow it back, anyhow, the boat is at the dealer right now, and they can't figure out why the stainless ring ( the one that presses up against the carbon ring is backing off( toward the pump) . Watch this video, and let me know what you think. what happens is, it backs off enough to pop off the clip, and then the ring pushes up, and the boat sinks in 3 minutes... fun... we have replaced the o'rings under the stainless sleeve... why does this move so much, the dealer said that they have never seen that happen, and they called seadoo, and seadoo has never seen it happen either... I think soemthings's either missing, or installed incorrectly...

here's the link to the vid, you have to watch very closely...

I think what is happening is that the shaft is moving in towards the engine. There is a plastic piece that is supposed to keep the shaft from doing that. I believe to get to that on the rxp you will need to remove the engines rear cover wich means removing the sc, the jet pump and shaft, and I believe a couple of motor mounts. If there is an easier way I'm sure someone here will let us know.
Is it just me or can you actually see the smoke coming off that ring when it touches down?

if you are talking about the little rubber plug that goes on the end of the driveshaft, that thing is in there, because we thought that might have been the problem, sure looks like that doesn't it?

What does the cap on the engine side of the driveshaft look like? (they have to remove the shaft to see it)

No, I am talking about the plastic piece that goes inside the rr cover on the end of the crank I believe.

Did you check the motor mounts? When I broke my motor mount the same thing happened and I was miles from anywhere. Pull up on the TB, does it the motor move?
