    Intake Grate Silicon

I'm looking to swap out my intage grate this weekend and I wanted to know what type of silicon are people using for around the intake grate? After several searches I've seen Permatex "Right Stuff" Silicon mentioned - but after checking several local stores I can't find this stuff.

Will any all-purpose waterproof silicon work?

Permatex Ultra Black is all I use. Let it set over night. Right Stuff is great but over twice as expensive and harder to remove for me.

    Yes, that should be fine.

People use the ultra black and the right stuff because they are both black like the bottom of the hulls.

I used the "Right Stuff" permatex. What is the secret to smoothing this stuff out. I tried to wet my finger like I do with silicone caulking but it did not work. I always end up less than satisfied with my results.

I have used Right Stuff every time I have put my grate on and it's worked really good for me. Holds in strong you jut have to smooth it quickly because it dries fast. I get it at PEPBOYS or AUTOZONE.

I put mine on thick then used a razor blade to cut it flush.

Thanks for all the tips. I'm going try using some clear all purpose silicon and see how that holds up this weekend.
I couldn't find Permatex anywhere. I asked the guy at autozone about it and his response was "if you don't see it in aisle 6 then we don't have it."

My experience is that the regular silicone does not hold up. Gets washed right out. Be sure it has plenty of time to cure.
