The CRX was much the anti-thesis to new cars nowadays...

It was light, no 'safety features', with a small fuel efficient engine.

Now we've got 4000lb 'sportscars' (*cough*Camaroandchallenger*cough*) that HAVE to have a 400HP engine to get out of their own way...

IMO the CRX was the grandfather of today's sport compact aftermarket craze. When I was in highschool it was a platform that was cheap enough for a kid to buy and with a little work could out handle a Mustang and nearly keep up with it in a straight line. I have a decendent of the CRX...06 Civic SI, and have almost as much fun driving it as my Boxster S.
It still amazes me how much performance the Japs have been able to get out of relatively small fuel efficient engines. I don't know about you guys, but I'd still rather cough up the cash at the gas station than be cought dead in a Prius.

One other thing...the wife's car is an 06 Altima SL and it gets great gas mileage for a roomy inexpensive sedan(30+mpg hwy). It makes decent power too and was under 300/mo new on a lease. We're now looking to trade it in for the Murano so I can pull a double trailer which gets the best mileage in its class with a 275hp engine. My first car at 16 was an 85 Nissan Pulsar and after driving through waste deep water, jumping it and basically beating the crap out of it constantly it never broke. Best part was 10 bucks filled the tank.

the gtr and mustang are no feather weights either. the camaro isn even in production so we have no official weight yet.

the metro geo and honda crx were probably the two most fuel efficient cars of there day. they weren't the safes cars back then now being 2-3 decades of corrosion there just plane death traps. not only that but just a few years ago they redid fuel economy standard on all cars and all took a fairly large hit. if you look. the metro and crx are better then todays cars but are not 55 mpg cars like they were rated.

also just and fyi gm is introducing a new car in the next year or two with a 1.0-1.4 turbo 120hp engine projected to be in the 45-50 mpg on highway. i think there being optimistic about fuel economy but then again who knows.

I drive an 87 supra with a straight six 21 mpg with my foot in it. car cost me $1500 bucks and worth every penny. I parked the truck and use this as my daily driver. I cannot locate any corrosion on the entire car and she runs good. The lack of corrosion is consistent to the part of the country I drive in though.
