    Piston Blown

Recently I blew my piston and last weekend i tore apart the engine. Going through the engine I found a spring in my bilge which i later found out after inspecting the cylinder that it was from the RAVE valves. Would the spring not being in the RAVE cause my piston to blow? It seems like with out the spring the port was essentially locked up. Or at least cause the chamber to heat up and blow a piston ring which then blew my piston out?

Nope to all. Can you post us up a pic? We should be able to tell you what caused it if we can see the sides of the piston.

    RQ, pics here. http://greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=62511

Mike - try to stick to ONE thread per problem. Your responces will get very confusing with multiple threads. But, you should post a WTB (wanted to buy) here and the doo clasified for a good used 951 head.

For a machine shop in North NJ try PM'n "addicted" as he is in your area. If not my guy is not too far. Near 12550.

Thanks Erin. I didn't post on that thread because Worx had it nailed in the second post. Apparently you haven't followed his suggestion and removed the cylinder yet? When a bearing grenades this is what one looks like. Are there pieces of metal lodged in the top edges of the piston? This is a result of an engine being hydrolocked about 15 hours prior. Is this ski recently purchased...or do you know it's history? And...is the the ski stock? If not, list what mods are done.

First, the spring resticts the RAVE valve from opening. It's not a "chamber." So...when the spring is removed, it opens immediately as there is no pressure holding it closed. This kills bottom-end torque, and makes the ski launch slow and sluggish. Until rpms get above 5500, then it runs normally as this is when it is supposed to be open. Understand now?

I understand the RAVE explanation, because my ski was doing that. How does hydrolock happen?

The ski was recently purchased, the history as far as i know is clean and the only mod is the water intake.
