    Best Replacment Motor

Where is the best place to buy a reman short block (947/951), with the best warranty?

Best warranty is SBT 2 year no fault.

Many people seem to dispute the quality of SBT. I have never dealt with them myself. Just do a search on it and you will see. But they do have that no-fault two year warranty, which if you don't mind having to pull an engine once in awhile if need be, can't be beat.

SBT over bores their engines to the point that they are unusable in the future without a resleeve and they make the squish band so loose that performance is terrible; this is to protect themselves as much as possible.

They use the lest expensive bearings on the cranks, cheap gaskets, welded cases, cheap pistons.

I could go on and on but be warned you will not find so many horror stories on the net because people like to bash them for no reason.

Find a good quality rebuild or have it done with OEM parts you will be more happy in the long run.

I was very impressed with how SBT handles their business. When I called to get a 717 engine, they said, "we're sorry sir, that one's on backorder. We can't get you one until next week". I thought that was funny since a "proper" rebuild can take months waiting on parts and machine shops. Sure enough, it came in on time. They even sent shipping papers to send my core back to them. The delivery truck driver dropped one off and picked the other up in the same visit. Dealing with them was truly a dream.

SBT doesn't hide the fact that they found low-cost suppliers to keep their prices down. Their own Mission Statement is to supply replacement engines at affordable prices. I had good luck with the 717 engine I got from them, and definitely had a warm-and-fuzzy knowing that I had a no-fault warranty on it.
