    Preparing for 500 mile trip

    FOlks:

I leave Friday for a trip up on Lake Superior on a very long ride. I just want to make sure that I check everything possible to minimize the chances of mechanical failure etc. A disabled ski on that lake could be lethal under the right circumstances.

So, what I have done so far is (04' RXP):

    - Extra set of plugs and an extra quart of oil
    - Replaced the zip ties on the bailer system
    - Checked battery levels and voltage
    - Checked oil in pump and changed it (Skat mod)
    - Inspected intake grate and checked all bolts

Equipment on board again this year is:
    - GPS
    - Portable ship-to-shore radio
    - Extra key (Learning key as a back up)
    - Cell phone
    - Whistle
    - mirror
    - Basic first aid kit

Any suggestions you guys might have to take a look at is appreciated.

    Maybe a flare gun kit?

Have a safe trip. It sounds like fun.

you can get a solar battery charger if you where worried about the battery.
You doing it by yourself ?

I'd bring warmer gear in case it rains ,etc.
maybe bring a long piece of pvc in case you swallow something and you can poke it in the intake.

I use a cable clamp as a cruise control. Not sure what size but I have it shaved down in 3 different widths. 30-35 35-40 40-45mph

I am going with one other guy on the trip.........

I have a 3mm wetsuit I am wearing........... Also bringing raingear to cut down the wind.

It is tough to pack for this thing. The temp on the lake (Air temp) can be 85 degrees one minute, and 50 degrees the next. It all depends on if the wind is coming of land or not.

Wish I had a GTX for this trip so I could pack more crap in.

I already have a 6 gallon gas can strapped on the back, for the love of God!!

    Keep the suggestions coming...........

if i'm going on a long trip, or recently modded my ski for whatever reason, i personally pack tools.

Socket wrench with 1/4", 10mm, 13mm, and 17mm sockets. screw drivers. extra clamp or two. pliers. you can pretty much fix anything minor that could go wrong with those tools, unless ur gonna bring a hoist and extra pistons and gaskets

call me paranoid.... that or i don't trust my ski, LOL

how about a manual water pump, an anchor and air horn.
2 pairs at least of gogles, might loose one depends on the ride might be rough as you mentioned sometimes.
    extra quart of antifreeze premixed.

and defenitly bring your friend along and have fun and be safe enjoy your ride.
