Have you downloaded the 2002 Service Manual?

Diagnostic procedures are outlined in the manual.

    400

    cdi

for some reason the 2000 up virage style setups are bad about losing the cdi's,go figure, maybe they don't consume enough voltage being a 2 cylinder vs running a 3 cylinder charging setup??almost never the stator although my pro1200 lost spark and it turned out the purple wire about an inch from going inside the mag housing broke in half, cut open the harness, soldered in a splice of wire, heat shrinked it,recovered it been cool ever since

If you are talking compression of 120 psi that seems low, my virage 700 is close to 150 psi.

Carbb'ed engine, good battery, 120 psi both...
Make very sure your battery is producing MORE than 10.6 volts while cranking.

Anything under 11 volts means the battery is very suspect, but the CDI will not produce spark with less than 10.6 volts.

I think your engine has a crank position sensor (Hall Effect type) integrated into the middle of the stator. Check the Service Manual for details regarding the test procedure, which involves using a 9 volt battery.
