Is it bad to overtighten screws when putting pump back together?
I just did a new impeller and wear ring on my 03 gtx and I tightened the **** out of all the bolts and screws. On the cone I tightened the 3 allen screws pretty hard and also the whole assembly is tightened pretty good. I know it said in the shop manual to torque to this much or that much something like 23 pounds on the little cone but I did not have a torque wrench. Am I going to mess something up? I am sure it would be ok but you never know.......

If you still have the plastic pump, you could possibly deform it if all the bolts/nuts are not tightened the same... Ron

Crap yes it is the plastic pump, I guess I am just going to mess it up then.... No way can I go back and take all that out and put myself through that again.

I was lucky that I got my plastic pump replaced under warranty... Ron

no way the screws/bolts that hold on the pump cone are 23 foot pounds....
if you distort any of that you will have problems. just un-tighten the pump bolts in a cross pattern slowly and evenly, and retorque them to the proper amount. I believe it should be done in steps, not the whole amount at once and there is also a certain order to be followed...
never mind what these guys say about, don`t worry about it or they had no problems... it`s your ski and you should learn to do things right and we`ll educate you right here from GH.net!
if the plastic pump cone it to tight it will also distort and may allow water to enter and mix with the lubricant...

30-50 inch lbs on the cone, you will crack it if your not careful and 22 ft lbs on the pump in a crossing pattren.
