    13/18 impeller depitch??

    one for the impeller guys,could a 13/18 155xl skat impeller be depitched to 11/14 or there abouts to suit a standard gp800r

    well...

    impellers have a root angle

    if the 13/18 uses the same root angle as the 11/14 then all will be fine - but I suspect this is not the case

    if the 13/18 uses a different root angle then when you depitch it to 11/14 it will not be the same impeller as a 11/14 impeller

    I'd suggest you call skat and ask them, they would know what root angles the 2 impellers would have

    dave has done a number of impeller repairs and repitches in the past and i can't fault he workmanship so if he says he can do it i have no reason to doubt his work,this is the email got from dave --Yes, we can repitch it, and also need to cut the blades like the 11/14. Cost
    would be about $100.00 if the diameter is good, and $140.00 if not.
    We'd have it for about 4 days.

    I am questioning whether you want to do it

    the problem is, if the root angles are different, (this is the question that needs answering that is why I suggested you call skat) than the impeller you end up with will in reality behave like an impeller that has a steeper pitch than a 11/14

    this means the rpms you end up with might not be right

    it also mean its perf characteristics will be different from a true 11/14

    For example, this is a similar situation to running a Solas concord 14/20 that had been depitched on a stock GP1200R. We used to do this on the forum quite a bit. The pitch we were trying to duplicate was a 13/19. In this case we gained a couple mph but the ski was a dog in the lower rpms (compared to a true 13/19)

    another more recent example is taking a Solas 18/24 and depitching it - I have one that has been depitched to 14/22 - this impeller behaves nothing at all like what you would expect from a 14/22 - this is because it's root angle is still so large - what is worse is by depitching it so much the Solas design has in effect been changed so the impeller no longer has the same perf characteristics that the original did

    In your case I have no idea how a 13/18 will perform as a 11/14. I am just giving you a heads up it may not run as you expect.
