    Sponsons Rivet Nut Type?

    Hi,

I am going to be installing sponsons on my SLs, and I was wondering which type of AVK insert do you guys use. In a post, someone had a picture of the Polaris kit and it looked like it had A-P 5/16" inserts. The A-p series are very hard to find in Canada. Forget Mcmaster as they don't ship to Canada ( and I don't think they carry the A-P Series). Also, what type of epxoy did you guys use for the rivet nuts?

    Thanks

There are many places that sell them. Try a google search for someone in your area that has them.

No epeoxy used. I just used a little silicone to help water-tight the seal.

Ok, but am I infact looking for the A-P series of rivet nuts? Or will any other series work well. Also, did you guys use the stainless or aluminum ones? 1/4" or 5/16"?

I do, but it is an 8 hour drive away from Montreal, where this Canadian is located.
(Only a 2 hour drive for me, but I won't be down there again for several weeks...)

These things are hard to come by in Canada, it seems. Or we just don't know who actually has them up here!

If someone could act as a go-between and forward ship the things to him in Montreal, that might be the way to do it. They are small and light, shouldn't be hugely expensive the mail to Canada.

I can get pretty much all of the AVK rivet nuts from the Spaneur Catalogue. I just can't seem to get the A-P series (they don't seem very popular). I just want to know if I need the A-P series, and what material and size.

The set I sent with your sponsons are a zinc plated, closed end type. Mcmaster carr part # 98280 A430 in a 1/4-20 thread. Make sure to use corrosion resistant bolts.

TIP: when installing the steel rivet nuts, take many little "squeezes" to compress them. I tried to go with one big "squeeze" of the rivet nut gun and broke the handle.
