Arrow How to lubricate Virage steering column bearings?

I would like to lubricate the steering head bearings behind the handlebars on my 2002 Virage TXi. The Service Manual says to use Polaris grease (of course), but not where to apply that grease.

Must I disassemble the handle bar, and the upper shroud, and then pull apart the actual steering assembly?

Is there a simple way to lubricate these things without a lot of disassembly?

I am not sure what the bearings look like inside there - have never had one apart.
    Metal or plastic/nylon?
Roller bearings or just smooth surfaces?

Where exactly should the lube get sprayed into?

Well mine was kinda rough, and its a beater ski, so i just dumped about 1/3 a can on the entire area and anything that looks like it could do anything.

That was about a month ago, and its still smooth.

I dont really see anything wrong with just coating the area with any spray type lube, but as you know, im no expert...
